The Macaroni Kid publisher network proves “pigs fly.”

I was invited to speak at the Macaroni Kid annual meeting that was held this weekend in Fort Lauderdale. About 100 moms gathered for their second annual event. 100 wonderful moms all wearing pink t-shirts with a pink pig emblazoned on the back. What’s the story behind the pig? When the concept for Macaroni Kid was first envisioned, Joyce Shulman, one of Macaroni Kid’s founders, was the recipient of much doubt. “You will trust a bunch of moms across the country to…

A story about Starbucks, a mugger and the kindness of strangers.

Last weekend my daughter got mugged on the way to a practice test. She wasn’t harmed, just frightened as the thief got up in her face and demanded her money. But he didn’t just take her $17, he also demanded her Starbucks. I thought at first he had asked for her Starbucks card, but it turned out she had a Starbuck vanilla latte or something in her hand. Yes, he took her drink.

So I tweeted about it. The moms tweeted back in droves–“was she okay?” Yes, just really mad that…

United Nations Foundation launches social media campaign for children: Shot@Life

Last Wednesday evening, I attended a cocktail for the launch of a United Nations Foundation campaign called Shot@Life. Mothers are dying around the world from pregnancy and pregnancy related complications, but children are also dying from lack of access to vaccinations.

“Shot@Life educates, connects and empowers Americans to champion vaccines as one of the most cost-effective ways to save the lives of children in developing countries. A national call to action for this global…

SJP’s new movie: “I Don’t Know How She Does It.” Will working mothers relate?

I am a working mother. I’m sitting at almost 9pm about to write this article. My day started at 4:45am this morning. But I’m still going. I’ve been to the gym, drycleaners, the podiatrist, posted a blog article, edited another to half it size, made my daughter a dentist appointment, talked to her orthodontist, spoke to another who wants to syndicate her fashion videos, stopped at Steps and signed her up for tap classes, did the laundry, cleaned the kitchen and one bathroom, took…

Please join us for a rockin’ #MILFF twitter party on September 9th at 9pm EST.

So here’s the story behind #MILFF hashtag and how it’s all led to a #MILFF twitter party.

I started using the #MILFF (Moms I Like 2 Follow Friday) hashtag about a year ago. I was actually afraid at first that all the moms would think it was silly or a bit risque till they got the twist. But it caught on. I don’t dare leave a mom off the list or I will get a message about being left out. Moms tell me they love telling their hubbies about being a MILFF and resulting look they get….

Moms and the City and a back-to-school event at Staples.

I attended the Staples Back-to-school event hosted by Moms And the City and Melissa Gerstein, Denise Albert and Raina Seitel this week. These three energetic ladies also have a show on NBC called “Moms and the City and a Dad named David.” These events are always fun because you get to meet moms you’ve only met online, make new friends and say hi to ones you already know.

If you’ve ever wondered what goes on at a blogger event, here’s a small taste. About 30+ moms (and 2…

Heading to Blogher to meet Moms IRL. Who’s going?

Like the birds returning to San Juan Capistrano every year, on August 4th over 3,500 Moms will descend on San Diego for Blogher. Last year was my first taste of Blogher and it was quite overwhelming so it will be interesting to experience it for a second time. Already it feels different from last year as I’ve met so many Moms since then, and I’ve met some of the women who run Blogher.

I merely mentioned planning to go to Blogher on Twitter or Facebook and I now have several…

Something as simple as your signature can help stop Moms from dying.

We’re joining The Global Poverty Project and CARE to fight maternal mortality issues.
Every mother remembers the day she gave birth. For most, it was a joyful and life changing event. But for some moms, childbirth is more complicated. In fact, every 90 seconds, a mother dies from pregnancy-related causes-and without access to the proper resources, technology and knowledge, this horrific epidemic will continue.

It’s time for moms around the world to leverage the power of social…

The latest in a long list of parenting sites: “Parentables.”

You remember the saying from the movie “Jerry McGuire– “You had me at hello.” Well the new parenting site Parentables from TLC did just that. With all of the parenting and mom sites on the web, it’s a challenge for anyone to create a new, differentiated presence but TLC has given theirs a twist. How? With very interesting subjects like:

• “If you have an American Doll, you will turn into an American Woman.”
• “Would you let your child try beekeeping?”
•…

Introducing RedRover. Come on over to the private social network for parents.

http://vimeo.com/23510186

A few months ago, I met Kathryn Tucker for lunch. Kathryn has gone from movie maker to app developer and Mom-trepeneur. Over lunch she presented from her iPad her RedRover app. I was very impressed with her vision for the app. When my kids were little, I was always scratching my head for something to keep them occupied or wondering if some of my friends would end up at the playground as well. At the time, Kathryn was still developing…
