Pew Internet study shows parents are talking to their online teens.

My teen is seemingly always on her iphone or her laptop. She texts, Skypes, IMs and is constantly in contact with her friends, teachers and the world at large as she is one of the few teens on Twitter. I worry continually about who she is talking with online, whether there is any bullying going on and how she is handling herself. According to Nielsen, women around the world find social media an indispensable tool.

Nielsen recently surveyed women around the world for their  “Women of Tomorrow” study. I was so excited to finally see a global study, as they seem to be few and far between. Nielsen reached out 21 countries that represented 60% of the world’s population to gain insight to how women shop, use social media and how we think our roles are evolving or changing.

According to Nielsen, social media around the world has become an indispensable tool. Not just for their homes, but for…

Are parents in charge of their iPhones or are iPhones in charge of us?

A recent study by Retrevo will lead you to think so. According to the study, 11% of the parents said they’d given up other activities they use to love to spend time of Facebook and Twitter. 19% of iPhone parents said they couldn’t stop checking Facebook or Twitter if they wanted. And if you own an iPhone you’re checking your phone very often because otherwise it makes you nervous or anxious. I found this very disturbing.

Almost simultaneously, I stumbled on a…

In social media, it’s not just about content, it’s about timing.

One of the things I find fascinating is watching the twitter stream of the Mom-entum followers. Over time I’ve discovered the times, the kind of content and who I will generally find online at any given time. It’s just common sense if I want to have an engaged audience, I need to be there when they’re there. I’ve also discovered a connection with timing and the type of content I talk about. Moms are generally not very interested in talking business late at night– it’s…
