Top 3 Takeaways from Facebook’s News Feed Announcement

facebookHere at Big Fuel, there’s nothing that generates quite as much excitement as a new Facebook announcement. So, at 1PM EST, we gathered with anticipation to learn more about the platform we love. And because we knew you may not have been able to tune in, we took a few notes.

1.) You Choose What You See

Facebook wants your experience to be the best it can be and admitted it was a driving factor in the new design. This means, you will now be able to customize your News Feed to highlight content you decide is most relevant. What’s even more exciting, is that in addition to the main feed, you’ll be about to view mini feeds via the ‘switcher’ categorized by: All Friends, Photos, Music, Following, Games, etc. This will result in more time spent overall on the News Feed, which leads to increased engagement with content and ads.

2.) Stories Become Even More Visual

With social photo and video consumption through the roof, especially with younger audiences, the redesigned News Feed will have an even larger focus on image-centric content. Facebook is putting photos front and center in the feed creating an more visual and immersive story-telling experience. They will also be bigger with the text status update overlaid on top of them creating a cleaner format.

3.) Streamlined Experience Across Desktop & Mobile

Facebook’s desire for a “more modern and clean” interface for users led them to apply similar design principles from phones and tablets to the Web making the experience almost identical.

Excited and ready to experience the redesign right now? We know the feeling! While the new News Feed will start rolling out to a small number of people on the Web today, it may take a while to show up for you. To speed up the process, sign up at facebook.com/newsfeed.
